Village Hall – Volunteers Needed in 2021

The Village Hall (VH) is a facility primarily for the inhabitants of Aldbrough St John, Stanwick St John and Carlton.  Established in 1964, it is formally the Walker Memorial Hall and is held in trust, by the charity established then, as a village hall and recreation room.  It is intended to be used for meetings and classes and other forms of recreation and leisure with a view to improving the life of villagers and promoting a community spirit.

Currently, because of Covid-19, only a Post Office service is provided (Thursday between 1pm and 3pm).  In recent years a range of events, classes and services have been run, including weekly afternoon teas, Pilates classes, art classes, wine tasting, race nights, Xmas lunches, quizzes, plays, defibrillator training and Aldbrough Feast events.  The VH has also hosted private parties e.g. for birthdays, anniversaries and wedding receptions.

Volunteers are needed to join the Village Hall Management Committee to replace retiring trustees and also to replace the Bookings Secretary.  The new trustees will, amongst other things, need to take an active role in helping to establish and implement how the VH will operate in the future including marketing the hiring opportunities and the services and events provided.
